Code of Conduct

Player’s Code 2022 Updated:

As a player I will:

· Play by the rules and in the spirit of the game.

· Respect my fellow players, my coaches, the officials, my opponents and the game.

· I will do my best to be a true team player.

· Remember that winning isn’t everything, that having fun, improving my skills and making friends and   doing my best are just as important

· Acknowledge all good plays or performances, both those of my team and my opponents

· Participate because I want to, not just because my parents or coaches want me to.

· Control my temper - fighting and mouthing off spoil the game for everyone.

· Remember that my coaches and officials are there to help me. I will accept their decisions and show them respect.

· I, as a player, have read and agree to abide to the best of my ability by the Wallaceburg Minor Lacrosse Association player’s code of conduct for the season.

As a parent I will:

· Remember that my child plays sports for their enjoyment, not for mine.

· Encourage my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.

· Teach my child that doing one’s best is as important as winning, so that my child will never feel severely defeated by the outcome of a game or event.

· Never ridicule or yell at my child, or another child, for making a mistake or losing a competition.

· Remember that children learn best by example. I will applaud good performances by both my child’s team and their opponents.

· Never force my child to participate in sports.

Code of Conduct

Coaches Code 2022 Updated:

In addition to the proper coaching certification, every WMLA coach and assistant coach are required to sign and adhere to the following Code of Conduct:

· Winning is a consideration, but not the only one, nor the most important one. Winning is a result of a process of inclusion of all members of the team. Remember, players are involved in Lacrosse for fun and enjoyment.
· Be a positive role model to your players, display emotional maturity and be alert to the physical safety of players.
· Be generous with your praise when it is deserved; be consistent and honest; be fair and just; do not criticize players publicly; learn to be a more effective communicator and coach; don't yell at players.
· Adjust to personal needs and problems of players; be a good listener; never verbally or physically abuse a player; give all players the opportunity to improve their skills, gain confidence and develop self-esteem; teach them the basics.
· Help in improving the performance of the game officials; they are learning the game as well. Be supportive, not critical. Attitude you show toward the game officials is passed onto your players.
· Organize practices that are fun and challenging for your players.
· Familiarize yourself with the rules, techniques and strategies of Lacrosse; encourage all your players to be team players.
· Maintain an open line of communication with your players’ parents/guardians.
· Explain the goals and objectives of your association.
· Be concerned with the overall development of your players.
· Stress good health habits and clean living. To play the game is great; to love the game is greater.
· Remember that you are an extension of WMLA and our future depends on today’s players and their willingness to carry on our great tradition.
· I, as a coach, have read and agree to abide to the best of my ability by the Wallaceburg Minor Lacrosse Association coaches code of conduct for the season.
